At home and in the classroom - you can help your kids to Be Fire Safe
Whether you're a parent or a teacher, making time to educate children about safety issues is a very important responsibility for every adult. The Hartford's Junior Fire Marshal program is designed to help you begin to talk about - and teach - fire safety to your kids and family.
The Hartford has helped families remain safe and secure for nearly 200 years. The importance of fire safety for kids came into the spotlight in 1947 when The Hartford Junior Fire Marshal ® program was introduced. Since then we have helped teach children's fire safety lessons to 110 million kids and deputized them as Junior Fire Marshals
Our signature red fire helmets have been proudly worn by generations of children who have learned the basics of fire safety through our innovative and educational program. Many of our materials are free, and the Junior Fire Marshal Helmets can be ordered in lots of 100 or 500 for a nominal charge.
We invite you to explore the resources of this site, learn the basics of fire safety, do the activities and coloring pages with your kids, and then deputize them as Junior Fire Marshals.
The key in any fire emergency is to remain calm.
